2026 Jets over Jacomo

Charles Reed Memorial Flying Field

05-JUN-2026

Kansas City Radio Control Association celebrated a day of flying and modeler fellowship with the “2026 Jets over Jacomo” held at the Charles Reed III Memorial Flying Field in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Pilots from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Florida filled the skies with the sounds and smells of turbine and EDF jets of all sizes.
A heartfelt memorial to KC/RC member and friend, the late Tom Cook, was held throughout the day as Tom’s sons set up a great display that showcased his personal and professional contributions to the radio control hobby, including accomplishments as an owner-operator of Jet Model Products that served jet model enthusiasts around the world and his design and innovation of the DynaMax ducted fan system, many of which are in use to this day. Tom was a Competitor, Pattern Flyer, Pylon racer, 1980 KC/RC Club President, Multi-Nationals and Scale Masters Champion, a true friend to the hobby.
Tom’s family and friends joined together for the sharing of stories and a generous donation was made to KC/RC in honor of Tom.
A giant of the model aircraft world, he was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame in 2023. Tom will be missed.

2025 National Model Aviation Day Celebration

Charles Reed Memorial Flying Field

16-AUG-2025

Kansas City Radio Control Association celebrated National Model Aviation Day on August 16, 2025, at the Charles W. Reed III Memorial Flying Field in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  With the theme of “Come Fly with KC/RC,” visitors participated in KC/RC Ground School utilizing four flight simulators with club instructors in air-conditioned comfort along with buddy-box introductory flights on one of three KC/RC trainer aircraft led by more club member instructors. The highlight of the day was the KC/RC Airshow put on by our very best club pilots featuring mass Warbirds and EDF Jet rallies, Turbine Jets, Helicopters, Control Line Stunt and F2D Combat demonstrations, Autonomous and FPV Drones, F3A and IMAA aerobatics demonstrations, and simulated pylon racing.  After the airshow, spectators were invited onto the runway to meet the pilots, get close to the planes, and vote for their favorites.  Jesse Casteel won the spectators’ favorite choice award with his beautiful B-25D Mitchell bomber, and Duane Hulen won best overall airshow with his giant Edge 540.  The event enjoyed a great turnout with 30 pilots, 50+ airplanes, and more than 100 spectators. 25 youngsters registered for KC/RC Ground School & Simulator training and live introductory R/C flights.  Local Boy Scout Troop 1306 prepared a delicious breakfast and lunch for all, and at the end of the day KC/RC hosted a BBQ potluck dinner for all registered pilots and their families.  All pilot entry fees and raffle proceeds were donated to Angel Flight Central, whose mission is serving people in need of long-distance charitable aviation transport for health care and other humanitarian situations.
